“How much to weigh in grams?”

It’s no coincidence that I took this phrase from an old funny advertisement, since in many recipes the authors quite rarely indicate all kinds of sizes for their ingredients – in grams, in ounces (oz) or cups (cup).

Metric system Imperial  Cups (US)
250 ml  8 fl oz 1

If you need a different amount, simply divide or multiply in terms of the desired one.

Weight – without cups

Everything is a little more complicated here, since different ingredients have different densities, and below I will give a few tables.

To start – ounces

Imperial System Metric
 1 ounce (oz) 30 grams

Similarly with liquids – if you need a different amount, simply divide or multiply in terms of the desired one.

Spoons

A simple rule (if, of course, the manufacturer complies with dimensional rules)

1 tablespoon (tbs) = 3 teaspoons (ts)

1 dessert spoon (ds) = 2 teaspoons (ts)

1 teaspoon 5 ml
2 teaspoons = 1 dessert spoon 10 ml
1 tablespoon 30 ml

Now “convert” spoons into cups: 16 tablespoons = 1 cup

Weight – in terms of cups

Plain flour and powdered sugar (you can find it in the name icing)

Metric system Imperial  Cups (US)
125 grams  4 1/2 ounces 1

Sugar granulated, that is, regular (caster or granulated)

Metric system Imperial  Cups (US)
200 grams 7 oz 1

Soft brown sugar

Metric system Imperial  Cups (US)
220 grams  7 3/4 ounces 1
